The new PREP Act declaration
issued by HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. extends liability protections to
pharmaceutical companies developing experimental treatments, such as the
antiviral
favipiravir
for hantavirus. The declaration followed a localized hantavirus outbreak aboard
a South Atlantic cruise ship that required medical monitoring and isolated
repatriations.
